The futuristic Dominion building takes the form of a series of unevenly stacked floor slabs, off-set at each level, and positioned around a black and white atrium.
The construction has been conceived by award-winning Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid (she also designed the London Aquatics Centre for the 2012 Olympics) and will be located on Sharikopodshipnikovskaya Street, in a growing IT and creative cluster in the south-east of Moscow.
From the outside, you can see that the seven-floor building (plus two below ground) is made up of irregular horizontal sections; while on the inside, it’s like an MC Escher drawing.
An open core rises through its heart, filled with natural light. Around this are the shifting, organic curves of internal balconies and diagonal staircases, affording views both upwards, downwards, left and right.
A press release said: “With the ground floor restaurant linking the atrium to the outdoor terrace, the atrium becomes a shared space over many levels that encourages interaction between the employees of the companies within the building.
“This integration also encourages collaboration between companies of different services and disciplines. Many IT and creative industry start-up companies regard this collective research culture as vital for progress and development, and the design of the Dominion office building reinforces this concept.”
One thing is for sure, people working in the Dominion building won’t be stuck for small talk around the water cooler.
